We’re excited to introduce a new blog series where we shine a spotlight on the incredible team behind Blake Court! In each post, we’ll be sitting down with our staff members to ask them about their experiences, insights and favourite moments while working here. Through their stories, you’ll get a glimpse into the heart of Blake Court and the people who make it such a special place. 

Our first conversation is with Jan. She is the dedicated maintenance person at Blake Court. She plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for our residents, providing a service that greatly enhances their daily lives and overall well-being.

When did you join Blake Court and what was your professional background previously?

I became part of the Blake Court team in October 2020, following many years as a landlord. During that time, I honed a wide range of skills through hands-on experience, making my journey largely one of self-teaching and adaptability.

How would you describe your role at Blake Court?

I can best describe my role at Blake Court as Handyperson/Maintenance/security/duty manager/social worker/caregiver (I’m not sure what to call myself).

Why is your role so valuable to the owners at Blake Court?

I guess my role is valuable to the owners as it gives them peace of mind to know there is always someone on site should they need it.

What do you most enjoy about your role?

I especially enjoy our themed nights that we have. They are always fun and memorable.

Can you provide any memorable moments at Blake Court that occurred whilst you were undertaking your responsibilities?

One of my first and still most memorable moments was celebrating one of the owners 100th birthday shortly after I joined Blake Court.

Why is Blake Court such a great place to live and work?

The incredible staff and owners are what make Blake Court such a fantastic place to work. My colleagues are truly amazing, as are the owners, and together, we feel like one big extended family. Every day brings something new, keeping things exciting and fulfilling. For me, Blake Court isn’t just a workplace – it’s my second home.
