We’re continuing our blog series shining a spotlight on the incredible team behind Blake Court! This time, we’re delighted to feature our Manager, Janet — the heart of our community. Since joining the team, she’s been key to creating the warm, welcoming environment that makes Blake Court feel like home. As Manager, Janet oversees the daily running of the court — from coordinating staff and ensuring safety standards, to supporting residents and their families. Her role blends practical leadership with genuine care, ensuring everyone feels safe, supported, and valued. Janet’s passion shines through in every aspect of her work, whether she’s welcoming a new resident, organising a social event, or simply offering a listening ear. What did you do before coming to Blake Court?

Before joining Blake Court, I ran my own catering business for 14 years. I then moved into education, working as a Lead Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant for 16 years. I started at Blake Court in March 2016 as a Housekeeping Assistant, and over the years worked my way up to Duty Manager, then Assistant Manager, before becoming Court Manager in July 2022.

What is your role as Manager?

As Manager, I oversee the daily running of the court. My role involves a wide range of responsibilities including planning, performance management, effective communication, fostering a positive and adaptable work environment, and promoting teamwork. I also work closely with owners and their families, always aiming to support their independence and overall well-being.

What are your priorities as Manager?

My top priority is ensuring that owners feel safe, supported, and cared for. It’s important they know I am here for them, and that their best interests are always at the heart of what I do. They know they can come to the office at any time, and they’ll be welcomed, listened to, and their concerns addressed with care and respect.

What do you enjoy about your role?

I truly enjoy every aspect of my role. No two days are the same, which keeps things interesting and engaging. What I love most is the interaction with the owners. We have some wonderful and unique personalities here, and they make each day a joy.

Are there any special moments you’ve had here?

There have been so many special and memorable moments. Our social events are always a highlight. They bring everyone together and create such a positive atmosphere. Celebrating birthdays is particularly meaningful, especially the milestone ones. We recently celebrated a 100th birthday here with all the owners, staff, and the owner’s family. It was such a heartwarming day. Blake Court is more than just a place to live, it’s a true community, like an extended family. Being part of it is both a privilege and a deeply rewarding experience.
